What it is

BPC-157, short for body protection compound-157, is discussed in the research literature as a gastric peptide associated with mucosal biology. Its musculoskeletal research focuses on tissue responses to injury, including tendon, ligament, muscle, and bone models. Those research areas explain scientific interest; they should not be presented as established clinical indications or promised recovery outcomes.[5]

Research areas and evidence

A 2025 systematic review searched the literature through June 2024 and included 36 studies: 35 preclinical studies and one clinical study. Animal and laboratory work suggested effects on repair-related signalling and injury outcomes. The human report was a small retrospective study of chronic knee pain, not a large randomized efficacy trial. Without a reliable controlled comparison, improvement reported after an intervention cannot establish that the intervention caused it. The review's positive preclinical findings therefore remain separate from proof of human healing.[5]

Safety and unknowns

The review found no clinical safety data within its included evidence, despite reassuring findings in some preclinical safety experiments. This is an evidence gap, not evidence of no risk. The authors specifically noted possible harms related to contamination, unregulated manufacturing, and unknown clinical safety. The search cutoff also matters: this entry describes the cited review, rather than claiming it has captured every subsequent publication.
