What it is

GHK is the tripeptide glycyl-histidyl-lysine; GHK-Cu refers to its copper complex. A 2018 narrative review discusses its presence in human biology, copper binding, and experimental effects on tissue remodelling. Papers sometimes discuss GHK with and without copper together, so it is important to check which material an individual experiment actually tested rather than assuming all findings apply to every formulation.[8]

Research areas and evidence

The review brings together cell experiments, animal wound models, gene-expression work, and small human cosmetic studies. Laboratory reports include changes in collagen-related processes and inflammatory signalling. The human cosmetic studies concern particular skin formulations and appearance-related outcomes. They do not convert animal wound-healing observations into proof of treatment for human injuries, nor do gene-expression changes establish disease prevention or longer life. This is a narrative review, not a pooled, systematic estimate of clinical benefit.[8]

Safety and unknowns

The review uses optimistic language about broad protective effects and discusses future internal-use research. Those proposals must be distinguished from demonstrated safety and benefit in controlled human trials. Experience with a cosmetic formulation cannot establish the safety of a different route or a research-grade material. This profile does not adopt the review's broad reassurance as a universal safety conclusion; long-term systemic safety and reliable clinical efficacy for the wider proposed uses remain unresolved by the evidence summarized here.[8]
